Google to buy Whatsapp

Previous rumours claimed that Facebook was also negotiating to buy the popular cross-platform mobile messaging app, emphasising that several major businesses are keen to improve how that handle instant messages. None, however, has spoken publicly about any potential deal.
WhatsApp has, according to some studies, played a direct part in declining SMS growth, and is reported to earn $100m a year. It processes up to 18billion messages per day and is currently available in 100 countries on 750 mobile networks. It is routinely among the top apps in each of those countries.
According to DigitalTrends.com, negotiations have been continuing for more than a month, with WhatsApp reportedly “playing hardball” to secure a better price.

Firefox OS phones by July'13

A new Firefox operating system for mobile devices is set for a July release after winning the backing of 13 wireless service providers around the globe, including Spain's Telefonica, China Unicom and America Movil.

Cheaper Windows smartphone by Nokia

Nokia unveiled a cheaper model in its Lumia smartphone range, powered by Microsoft's Windows phone software, as it tries to regain dominance in emerging markets like China.

The Finnish cellphone maker, which until recently was the world's largest maker of phones, said Monday the new Lumia 520 will start at (euro) 139, or about $183, before phone-company subsidies.

That compares favorably with Apple's two-year-old iPhone 4, which costs $450 before subsidies. However, low-end smartphones running Google's Android software are available for less than $100.
